A Day to Appreciate All the Hard Work (Including Yours, yes you!)
Every year, Japan celebrates Labor Thanksgiving Day — a holiday dedicated to appreciating workers and all their contributions to society. It usually falls on November 23, but since that’s a Sunday this 2025, the holiday will be observed on November 24.
Hello, long weekend! 🎉 (Yes, that little victory dance you just did is valid.)
Long before this became a modern “thank you, workers!” holiday, it started as Niiname-sai, a traditional Shinto harvest ritual. That’s right — before thanking employees, Japan thanked rice first. Very on-brand.
Fast-forward to today: it’s a day to honor labor, human rights, and productivity.
Basically, a national “we appreciate you… please rest” day.
Kids make handmade notes to thank police officers, hospital staff, cleaners, teachers — everyone who helps the community.
Very wholesome. Very “awww.” Very “sana all appreciated.”
Some workplaces give out snacks, small gifts, or a short thank-you message from the boss.
Others simply say nothing… but hey, at least they gave a holiday.
It’s a quiet, peaceful day — no loud events, no fireworks, just pure rest.
Because sometimes the most productive thing you can do is… take a nap.
For overseas workers, appreciation doesn’t always come loudly. Sometimes it’s just :
“Otsukaresama.”
“Good job.”
“Let’s take a break.”
But this day reminds you that :
Your work matters.
Your effort keeps everything moving.
And yes, you deserve the same respect and gratitude as everyone else.
So, if you’ve been tired lately — this is your friendly reminder :
Please rest. Your body is not a rechargeable appliance.
(And even appliances overheat!)
On November 24, take a moment to appreciate yourself.
Your hard work — whether in a company, shop, factory, hospital, or anywhere else — keeps someone’s life running more smoothly.
Happy Labor Thanksgiving Day!
And in true Filipino spirit :
Thank you for your hard work. You’re doing amazing, keep going.
